14 from Men's Track and Field Qualify for 2023 NCAA East Preliminary Rounds

Jacksonville, FL – The NCAA announced its qualifiers for the Division I Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary Rounds, and fourteen members of the Princeton University men's track & field earned another chance to compete for the 2023 season. Â

The squad of Tiger men will head to Jacksonville, Florida from Wednesday, May 24th to Saturday, May 27th, for the East Preliminary Rounds.

After being ranked at No. 2Â in the Mid-Atlantic Region by the USTFCCCA in the latest edition of the NCAA Division I Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index, the Tigers will have athletes from each class representing Princeton.

From the senior class, Sondre Guttormsen, Simen Guttormsen, Ibrahim Ayorinde, Josh Zelek, and Duncan Miller all qualify to compete in Jacksonville. Â

Junior Matthew Farrell along with sophomores Nicholas Bendtsen, Tyler Konopka, and Avery Shunneson also qualified for this years' NCAA Regionals.

Although sophomore high jumper, Seb Clatworthy, had a qualifying mark of 2.11m from this season that would allow him to compete at regionals, due to health concerns he will not be participating. Â

Five Tigers from the freshman class, Greg Foster, Jackson Shorten, Myles Hogan, Asher Robbins, and Casey Helm will all be making their Outdoor NCAA Regional debuts.

Guttormsen, competing in the pole vault, will be making his second appearance at an NCAA Regional as he also qualified in 2022 and later on went on to earn the 2022 NCAA pole vault champion title. His mark of 5.90m currently ranks No. 1 in the region. Guttormsen's showing in Jacksonville will begin his quest to earn his fourth, consecutive pole-vault NCAA championship at Princeton.

Simen Guttormsen will also be making his second NCAA Regional appearance, competing in the pole vault. The 2022 First Team All American's mark of 5.37m from this seasons' Outdoor Ivy Heps currently ranks No. 11 in the region.
Ayorinde qualified in the 200 meters, an event where he ranks No. 40 in the region, with a time of 20.72 from Outdoor Ivy Heps.

Competing in the 10000m, Zelek's time of 28:57.79 from the Raleigh Relays ranks No. 22 in the region. Also competing in the 10000m, Farrell's time of 29:21.17 ranks No. 42 in the region.

Miller, who was an NCAA Regional qualifier in in the 1500m in 2022, ranks No. 25 in the region with his time of 3:40.61 at the Wake Forest Invitational.

Bendtsen's program record time in the 5000m of 13:35.15 from the Wake Forest Invitational lands at No. 7 in the region.

First year Greg Foster will participate in both the Long and Triple jump in Jacksonville. Foster's long jump mark of 7.97m ranks 4th in the region, and his long jump mark of 15.31m ranks 41st.
Konopka will compete in the Shot Put in Jacksonville, making his NCAA regional debut. His mark of time of 17.83m from the Penn Challenge ranks No. 44 in the region.

After a heave of 56.81 meters at Outdoor Ivy Heps, Helm, ranks No. 19 in the region in the discus throw. Shunneson also qualified for this years' NCAA Regionals in the discus throw. His mark of 54.32m from the Big Five Meet Ranks No. 42 in the region.

Robbins' 62.75m mark in the Hammer Throw from the Larry Ellis Invitational ranks his performance at No. 34 in the region.
Shorten qualified in the 3000-meter steeplechase, an event where he ranks No. 42 in the region, with a time of 8:54.07 from Outdoor Heps.
Hogan qualifies for this years' regionals with his time of 13:53.62 Â in the 5000m from the West Point Twilight Meet that ranks at No. 40 in the region.
The fourteen Tigers will compete in Jacksonville, Florida at the University of North Florida from Wednesday, May 24th to Saturday, May 27th, for the East Preliminary Rounds.
