No. 1 Princeton Women's Crew Will Have All Three Boats Race For NCAA Gold

PRINCETON – The No. 1 Princeton Women's Open Rowing Team had all three boats qualify for the NCAA Grand Finals highlighted by the first varsity's semifinal victory on Cooper River today.
The Tigers' 1V raced out to a 500m lead just in front of Penn with Texas over 1.5 seconds behind. Princeton led at the halfway mark with Penn and Texas squarely in the top three. Texas pulled in front of the Quakers at the 1,500m point but Penn regained second place. The Tigers (6:13.42) held off a late Quakers' (6:13.91) push at the line by .49 seconds. Texas also qualified for the Grand Final in third at 6:14.47. Syracuse (6:19.54), SMU (6:24.0) and Cal (6:25.81) will row in the B-Final.
Princeton's 2V picked up a third-place finish in its semifinal (6:23.43) behind Washington (6:18.36) and Texas (6:20.65). The Tigers were in second at the 1,000m, but ultimately were caught by the Longhorns. Brown (6:29.15), Virginia (6:32.37) and SMU (6:36.93) rounded out the competition.
The Tigers' varsity four placed second (7:09.01) to Texas (7:07.81) in its semifinal. Princeton was just behind Texas throughout the race with Virginia making a push for third, but ultimately crossing the line at 7:10.18. Washington, Michigan, and Duke will head to the B-Final.
The 1V Grand Final will be tomorrow at 10:24 a.m. while the 2V is at 10:00 a.m., and 4A is at 9:36 a.m. Princeton, Texas, Yale and Stanford have a boat in each Grand Final while Washington is also mathematically alive for the team championship.
Since 2010, Princeton has finished inside the top 10 in the NCAA team standings 10 times, earning three bronze medals. The Tigers have won four NCAA gold medals in the 1997 2V, 2006 1V, 2011 1V and last year's 4A. In 2022, Princeton had its 1V collect a bronze and its 4A pick up a gold, marking the first time since 1997 that the team had corralled two medals at the NCAAs. The squad's third place finish overall was the best mark since 1997.
