Princeton, N.J. – Sondre Guttormsen of the Princeton University men's track & field team was named as one of 10 semifinalists for the 2023 Bowerman, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Thursday. Guttormsen is now a two-time semifinalist for the prestigious, collegiate Track and Field award and was upon every single edition of The Bowerman watch list for 2023.
Guttormsen concluded a spectacular career at Princeton in 2023 that featured sweeping both the indoor and outdoor Ivy champion titles, winning a national indoor pole vault title after clearing 6.00 m to equal the collegiate record, a 5.90m (19-4¼) outdoor vault at the Texas Invitational to equal the fifth-best performance in collegiate history, earning First Team All-America honors at the 2023 Outdoor Track and Field Championships tying for sixth place overall, and being named the Mid-Atlantic Region Men's Indoor and Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year by USTFCCCA.
Debuting in 2009, the Bowerman was named after former University of Oregon coach Bill Bowerman, and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female NCAA track & field athletes in the nation.
Â
Three finalists for The Bowerman will be announced on June 26, to be followed by the voting period. The Bowerman winner will be announced in December as part of the USTFCCCA Convention in Aurora, Colorado.
