Two-Time Defending NWPC Champion, Men's Water Polo, Set For Season Opener Tomorrow

PRINCETON – The two-time defending Northeast Water Polo Champion, Princeton Men's Water Polo Team, welcomes LIU and George Washington to DeNunzio Pool on Saturday to begin the 2023 season.

The Tigers will take on the LIU Sharks at 10 a.m. before finishing the day with a battle vs. George Washington at 6 p.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.

Princeton won 27 games last year, the most in program history and reached the NCAA Quarterfinals for the second straight season for the first time ever.

Head coach Dustin Litvak's group returns two All-Americans in Roko Pozaric and Vladan Mitrovic.

Pozaric, the Northeast Water Polo Conference Player of the Year, led the Tigers with 62 goals, 51 steals and 93 sprint wins in 2022, adding 39 helpers and 34 drawn ejections. He scored in every game he played except for three, contributing 19 multi-goal performances. His signature contest was a four-goal, two-assist, five-steal outing in a win at No. 8 UC Santa Barbara.

Mitrovic was one of five Tigers with 30+ goals, contributing 32 along with 11 assists, 17 steals and nine blocks last campaign. He had nine multi-goal games including a hat trick vs. No. 16 Fordham and two tallies vs. No. 1 USC in the NCAA Tournament.

Another top return is West Temkin who helped lead the United States U-20 squad to a bronze medal at the U-20 World Championships in June, the first ever medal for the team at that tournament. The sophomore was also named the top goalkeeper of the championships.

The Tigers had a the second most goals ever with 403 goals in 2022 with 10 players registering at least 20 goals with Pozaric, Yurian Quinones (39), George Caras (36), Mitrovic (32), JP Ohl (25), Pierce Maloney (24), and Luke Johnston (23) coming back in 2023.

Princeton has never faced LIU who is in its second year as a program. The Tigers have lost just three times to the Colonials in 46 matchups.
