Men's Hockey Edged By #5/5 Quinnipiac, 3-1
January 13, 2024 | Men's Ice Hockey
Princeton put together a solid 60:00 in the finale of a home-and-home with defending national champion Quinnipiac, but the fifth-ranked Bobcats scored three times in a 10-minute span over the second and third periods to pull away in a 3-1 win at Hobey Baker Rink.
Ethan Pearson made 35 saves, two away from tying his career high, in his first game since suffering an injury on December 9 to keep the Tigers within range.
The second period became a special teams showcase as the two teams combined for six minor penalties – four taken by the Tigers – and eventually the Bobcats broke through when Collin Graf snuck a wrister through a screen and in with 3:48 remaining in the second period and Quinnipiac on a 4-on-3 man advantage.
Graf would scored again to open the third period, needing just 0:09 to sneak in and give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead.
Christophe Fillion would add an insurance marker 5:13 into the third period with a redirection of a Cooper Moore shot on the power play.
Down by three goals late and on a 5-on-3 power play with under 2:00 remaining, the Tigers pulled the goalie and it paid off when Adam Robbins fed a cross-ice pass to de la Durantaye who one-timed home a PPG to get the Tigers on the board.
Princeton looked to get even closer, with three more shots on goal after the de la Durantaye goal but Vinny Duplessis stood tall – including back-to-back stops on Brendan Gorman and Jack Cronin with just under a minute remaining.
The Tigers conclude a stretch of five consecutive games against ranked opponents at No. 18 Cornell on January 19 at 7 p.m.

One night after spotting the Bobcats six goals in the first period, Princeton clamped down in the opening frame. It was busy in the Tigers' end, but Ethan Pearson was up to the task as he stopped all 14 shots faced in the first stanza – including a Zach Tupker breakaway as time expired in the period.Never Stop.
