Men's Basketball Falls To Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Princeton University men's basketball team fell to Cornell inside Newman Arena Saturday afternoon, 83-68.
Sophomore Xaivian Lee led the Tigers with 17 points on 10-for-11 shooting from the free throw line, with his 10 made free throws being a career-high. Sophomore Caden Pierce finished with a game-high 11 rebounds along with a team-high four assists, while senior Zach Martini added nine points, three rebounds and two assists.
With 15:34 on the clock a layup by Martini led a 6-0 run that saw the Tigers take a 10-6 lead with 14:25 on the clock. While the Big Red battled back and took an 11-10 lead with 12:45 remaining in the half, a layup followed by a dunk by junior Philip Byriel put Princeton ahead, 17-13, at 10:29.
Cornell got hot to close out the half, using a 10-0 run to surge ahead, 23-17, with 8:00 left in the half. With 4:09 remaining in the half the Big Red went on a 15-0 run and would take a 43-24 advantage into halftime.
Back-to-back three-pointers by Lee and junior Blake Peters made it a 50-34 contest with 17:16 left to play. Cornell were able to hold off the Tigers momentarily, increasing its lead to 64-43 with 9:38 remaining.
Princeton showed resolve, with a pair of Lee free throws with 9:12 on the clock leading a 9-0 run that made it a 12-point game, 64-52, at 8:09.
Despite the Tigers' best efforts to mount a comeback, Cornell held on for the 81-67 victory.
