January 27, 2024 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON – The Princeton Women's Basketball Team had three players in double figures in an 85-47 victory over the Cornell Big Red at Jadwin Gym.
Kaitlyn Chen posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists. Her 10 helpers matched a personal best and were two shy of tying the program record. Madison St. Rose led all scorers with 15 points while Ashley Chea dropped in 11 in the win.
Princeton's bench matched Cornell's team total with 47 points.
It was that kind of game.
The Tigers scored the first nine points of the matchup and allowed two baskets in the first 10 minutes, earning a 20-8 lead after 10 minutes.
After shooting 69 percent in the first stanza, the Tigers shot even better in the second quarter, going 12-of-17 from the floor (70.6 percent). Head coach Carla Berube's squad outscored Cornell by 15 during that stretch and led 46-19 at the break.
The Tigers' hot shooting slowed down in the second half, but they still managed to score 39 points and took home a 38-point decision.
Princeton had 24 assists on 35 baskets and outrebounded Cornell, 35-21. On the defensive side, the Tigers scored 26 points off 19 turnovers and had six blocks.
Berube's squad has trailed in just one of its five Ivy contests this season.
Other top members of the bench unit include Tabithia Amanze's eight points and five caroms while Paige Morton added six points and three boards.
Princeton is now 15-3 overall and 5-0 in the Ivy League. The Tigers have won 10 straight games which marks the fifth straight season they have had that long of a winning streak. Carla Berube has coached 13 10+ game winning streaks in her career.
The Tigers have an old-fashioned Ivy weekend doubleheader next week as they take on Brown on Feb. 2 (7 p.m.) and Brown on Feb. 3 (5 p.m.).
