2024 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Tournament Selections
The Princeton field hockey team that gathered under a tent in a parking lot after its 2-1 overtime loss to Harvard Sunday afternoon in the Ivy League tournament final and the team that gathered in the football team room eight hours later got to experience wildly different emotions.
The team that gathered for its postgame tailgate had only one question: Will we get in? After sitting on that question for a brutal eight hours, the team that was in the football stadium at 10 had its answer rather quickly: Yes!!!
Princeton earned one of the eight at-large bids for the NCAA tournament and will face Boston College Friday at 1:30 in the second game at St. Joe's University in Philadelphia. The doubleheader begins at 11 Friday, when the host Hawks take on Lafayette. The winners will then play Sunday at noon for a spot in the NCAA Final Four at Michigan.
Princeton had a seven-game winning streak snapped with the loss to Harvard but enters the NCAA tournament at 13-5, including a 7-0 run to the Ivy League championship during the regular season. Boston College is 14-6 on the season and went 6-2 in the ACC, also falling in the conference tournament final.
Boston College and Princeton have met only once before, in the 1997 NCAA tournament at Maryland, where Princeton won 3-2.
