Men's Basketball Falls To Loyola-Chicago, 73-68

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University men's basketball team fell just short against Loyola-Chicago, 73-68, Friday night inside Jadwin Gymnasium.
Junior Xaivian Lee tied the game-high in points with 17 and added six rebounds along with a team-high five assists. Sophomore Dalen Davis also scored 17 points and went 5-for-7 from three, with his five made three-pointers a career-high. Junior Caden Pierce recorded his 23rd career double-double with 11 points and a team-high 11 rebounds while freshman Malik Abdullahi recorded a season-high 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting along with four rebounds.
The Ramblers opened the game with a 7-0 run, but a Pierce layup with 17:48 on the clock ignited an 8-0 run that put the Tigers in front, 8-7, with 16:04 left in the half. Princeton would soon extend its lead to five, 13-9, at 14:21 following a Lee three-pointer then a pair of Pierce free throws.
The Ramblers would take the lead back at 26-25, but a powerful alley-oop from Lee to Abdullahi followed by an Abdullahi layup put the Tigers up, 28-25, with 7:13 remaining in the half. Loyola responded with a 9-0 run, jumping ahead 34-30 with 3:58 on the clock. A Lee layup tied it at 6-36 at 2:25, but the Ramblers took a 43-38 advantage into halftime.
Loyola took a 48-41 lead with 16:22 on the clock, but a three-pointer by Davis ignited a 10-0 run that included another Davis three-pointer along with a pair of sophomore Jackson Hicke baskets that saw Princeton get ahead, 51-48, with 13:45 left to play. The Ramblers would respond with an 8-0 run and take a 58-52 advantage with 9:10 remaining.
Princeton would battle back, tying it up at 60-60 with a long three-pointer from Peters at 4:58 then taking a 62-60 lead after Pierce coast-to-coast dunk with 4:46 left to play. Princeton led 68-66 at 1:41 following an Abdullahi jumper, but the Ramblers closed the game out on a 7-0 run to secure the 73-68 victory.
