November 23, 2024 | Wrestling
CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – Winning the final seven bouts of the day to get a win from behind against UTC, the Princeton wrestling team split duals with Purdue and UTC on Saturday on the road in Chattanooga.
The Tigers fell 26-15 to Purdue while later defeating Chattanooga 29-13, despite an initial 13-0 lead from UTC.
Luke Stout won both his matches on the day, as did Ty Whalen and Sebastian Garibaldi, continuing a string of strong performances this season from the Tigers.
Stout, no. 16 on Flowrestling, picked up a tech fall against Purdue's Ben Vanadia in 6:13, before getting another tech fall against Chattanooga's David Harper.
No. 8 Whalen battled to an 8-1 decision against Purdue's Isaac Ruble, later getting a tech fall over UTC's Dayne Dalrymple.
Garibaldi, who was ranked 33rd by Intermat, earned a major against Purdue's Hayden Filipovich. Later, in the match against UTC, Garibaldi tied the dual for Princeton with an 8-3 decision against Ethan Vergara.
As Princeton began its second dual of the day, UTC won the first three bouts to build up to a 13-0 lead, but the Tigers went on to win the next seven bouts to shut out Chattanooga and take the win.
Eligh Rivera picked up a decision over #18 Isaiah Powe of UTC. Mikey Squires earned a tech fall over Logan Webster, while Ethan Rivera and Dan Jones each picked up major decisions against Tyler Tice and Bryce Luna, respectively, to put the Tigers ahead.
As the Tigers continue to build on their progress this season while more newcomers make noise on the mat, Princeton will next look to a dual meet with No. 2 Iowa on the road in St. Louis on December 6.
