December 06, 2024 | Wrestling
ST. LOUIS, M.O. – Eligh Rivera's down-to-the-wire victory in the 141 lb class highlighted Princeton's trip to St. Louis, where the Tigers dropped a dual meet to No. 2 Iowa, 39-3.
Rivera battled it out with the Hawkeyes' Cullan Schriever, tying the close matchup at 1-1 with just over a minute to go in the third period. With fourteen seconds remaining, Rivera, who was down by one, managed a big takedown for three points to take the decision 4-2.
Eligh's brother and teammate, Ethan Rivera, also had a strong showing tonight as the freshman gutted through a close bout with Joey Cruz. Keeping the match within two points into the third period, Ethan Rivera fought to end the matchup with 44 seconds of riding time. A last-second takedown ultimately gave the 6-2 decision to Cruz, but the performance continued a season that is full of potential so far for the first-year.
Sebastian Garibaldi took on #13 Ben Kueter, also exhibiting toughness and resilience in what resulted in an 8-2 decision for Kueter.
With a quick turnaround, the Tigers now return home to Jadwin Gymnasium for a B1G/Ivy Rivalry matchup with Rutgers on Sunday, with the dual starting at noon. Tickets can be found here.
