Jones Earns MD, Squires Wins as Princeton Falls to Rutgers

PRINCETON, N.J. – Continuing its annual B1G Ivy Rivalry series, the Princeton wrestling team fell to Rutgers at home in Jadwin on Sunday in its first home dual meet of the season. Mikey Squires and Dan Jones picked up wins in the contest, but the Tigers falling to Rutgers 32-7. With the loss, Princeton falls to 2-4 in duals on the season while Rutgers improves to 5-2.
Jones's performance highlighted the day as the freshman earned the major against the Scarlet Knights' Brandon Chletsos. With a takedown early, Jones was able to build up a lead before getting another takedown in the second period. Chletsos got some momentum in the third, but Jones kept him locked out to take the 9-1 major decision at 133.
In the 184 class, Squires gutted out a close bout with Shane Cartagena-Walsh, with the match scoreless heading into the second period. Gaining some momentum, Squires was able to earn and escape and as the clock ticked down, he picked up a 3-0 decision to get the Tigers on the board.
In the 165 class. Hudson Hightower battled a close matchup with #20 Anthony White. With a minute left in the third period, Hightower made a big takedown to bring himself within one, but it would fall short as White took the decision 8-4.
Ethan Rivera also showed a strong effort today, holding #19/11 Dean Peterson to a scoreless first period before gaining some momentum later in the match, but it would not be enough as the match ended in a 5-3 decision for the Scarlet Knights.
The Tigers will return to the mat later this month in Chicago at the Midlands tournament on December 29.
