About the Tigers
- Princeton closed out 2024 with a strong performance at the 60th annual Midlands Championships in Chicago, with three Tigers placing in their respective weight classes and Princeton placing 10th overall of 25 teams. Marc-Anthony McGowan and Chloe Ayres took fifth place medals, while Sebastian Garibaldi claimed sixth.
- #27/26 McGowan made his collegiate debut at the tournament, winning fifth place in the 125 weight class after going 6-2 on the weekend.
- Garibaldi is 10-5 on the season after going 3-2 at Midlands with two pins and a tech fall accounting for the three victories. The junior is now 3-3 in duals and 7-2 in tournaments after beginning the season by winning the 285 championship title at the Princeton Open in November.
- Fellow Princeton Open champion, #30/27 Mikey Squires, is 9-5 on the season so far and 3-3 in duals after defeating #29 Shane Cartagena Walsh of Rutgers during Princeton's rivalry dual meet. Squires went 2-2 at Midlands including a gutsy 4-1 sudden victory over Illinois's Dylan Connell.
- #31/NR Eligh Rivera has looked strong this season so far with a record of 4-3, which includes a notable win over no. 2 Iowa's Cullan Schriever.
- #7/10 Ty Whalen will return to the mat with a 9-0 record on the season, which began with a Princeton Open championship title in the 149 lb class in November. Three of Whalen's victories have been tech falls as the sophomore has gone 5-0 in tournaments and 4-0 in duals so far this year.
- Princeton is 2-4 in dual meets so far this year, with wins against LIU and UTC. Before Midlands, the Tigers dropped a home dual meet to Rutgers.
- The Tigers are led by two-time national champion Head Coach Joe Dubuque, in his second season at the helm of the program. Joining Dubuque this year are two new assistant coaches - Cody Brewer, who comes to Princeton from Virginia Tech, and 2019 NCAA Champion Anthony Ashnault, who is beginning his coaching career after an impressive collegiate wrestling career at Rutgers.
