Four Tigers Earn Arm-Raises as Princeton Falls to #22 WVU, 27-12

PRINCETON, N.J. – With four Tigers earning decisions on the night, the Princeton wrestling team fell to #22 West Virginia, 27-12, on Saturday night in Jadwin Gym.
Mikey Squires, Dan Jones, Eligh Rivera and Ty Whalen all recorded wins in the dual meet.
Squires got the Tigers on the board with a decision over WVU's Ian Bush after an early takedown gave him the lead. Squires continued the offensive attacks, earning another takedown to ultimately bring the final score to 7-4.
In a close battle, Jones had 46 seconds to go in the match with the score tied at 5-5. With just 17 seconds remaining, the first-year made an escape to take the decision 6-5 over WVU's Mason Kernan.
In the 141 class, #31/NR Rivera gutted through a close bout against #27/25 Jordan Titus, with the score 3-1 Rivera heading into the third period. With just over a minute to go, Rivera made another takedown to extend the lead, ultimately winning the match with a final score of 7-2.
Closing out the dual, #7/10 Whalen was down 10-2 with 1:30 to go in the second period. The Mullica, N.J. native went on to make a series of takedowns to bring himself within one point. With the score 12-11, Whalen took the lead just seconds into the third period with another takedown in front of an electrified Tiger bench. Finishing strong, Whalen went on to win the bout 17-13.
The Tigers will compete again next Friday, with the squad splitting for a dual with Morgan State in Baltimore, Md. and compete in the F&M Open in Lancaster, Pa. on Friday, January 10.
