Ten Princeton football players earned 2024 All-Ivy League recognition, it was announced Tuesday by the league office. Four Tigers earned second-team distinction, while six earned honorable mention.
Â
"I am so happy for our guys that were selected by our league coaches to receive All-recognition," head coach Bob Surace said. "It is a tremendous honor for all of them to receive and a credit to the work they have done."
Â
Senior Tommy Matheson earned second-team honors after starting all 10 games at offensive guard. He played in 30 consecutive games for Princeton over his last three years and became one of the most dependable inside linemen in the league this season. Matheson, voted a team captain before the season, was also a leader inside the locker room.
Â
Three defensive players earned second-team All-Ivy honors, including two who will return for their senior seasons in 2025. Junior linebacker Marco Scarano was one of the most disruptive defensive players in the league; he ranked third in tackles (8.4 per game) and second in tackles for loss (1.1) in Ivy League games. He had dominant performances against Dartmouth (16 tackles, 2 TFL) and Brown (14 tackles, 1.5 TFL) during the fall.
Â
Classmate Nasir Hill makes his return to the All-Ivy League second team following another strong season in the defensive backfield. Hill finished fourth on the team with 59 tackles, including a season-best 12 against Dartmouth, and he added an interception in the win over Brown.
Â
Senior Jack DelGarbino followed All-Ivy honorable mention in 2023 with second-team honors to close out a highly productive Princeton career on the defensive line. One of the strongest inside linemen in the league, DelGarbino had 50 tackles on the season, including 10 in the nationally televised win over Brown.
Â
Senior co-captains Nicholas Hilliard and John Volker both earned honorable mention on the offensive side of the ball. Hilliard matched his 2023 All-Ivy honorable mention by posting another strong season at offensive guard. Volker finished fifth in the Ivy League in rushing (57.1 yards per game), and he capped his career in style, rushing for 130 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown, in a season-ending win over Penn.
Â
Sophomore Chase Christopher earned his first All-Ivy League recognition by earning honorable mention at linebacker. He led Princeton and ranked seventh in the Ivy League with 7.2 tackles per game during the season. He had two double-digit tackle performances on the season, including 11 against nationally ranked Mercer.
Â
Senior placekicker Jeffrey Sexton, senior returner AJ Barber and sophomore punter Brady Clark each earned honorable mention as well. Sexton went 7-for-7 on field goal attempts during his final season, including a 51-yarder at Harvard that stands as Princeton's longest field goal of the 21st century. Clark ranked second in the Ivy League in punting average (42.6 yards/kick) and tied for the Ivy lead with nine punts over 50 yards. Barber, who also recorded more than 100 career receptions for Princeton, finished second in the Ivy League with 8.9 yards per punt return.
Collin Taylor was also honored as Academic All-Ivy. He matched his career high with 30 tackles, adding two sacks.Â
