Dinu, Schott Have Record-Setting Days In Princeton's Opening Tri-Meet Wins
November 09, 2024 | Men's Swimming and Diving
Welcome to the Princeton swimming and diving team, Patrick Dinu. And welcome to the record book as well.
Dinu, a freshman from Romania, made a huge splash in DeNunzio Pool in his Tiger debut, setting one school record and another freshman record to help Princeton past both Dartmouth (224-56) and Brown (236-64) in a tri-meet. Princeton won all 16 events and went at least 1-2 in 13 of the 16 events.
DInu won the 100 freestyle in a school-record 42.51, which was also an NCAA B qualifying standard and the eighth-best time nationally so far this season, after he won the 100 breaststroke in a freshman-record time of 53.49. Dinu also swam on the winning 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay.
Mitchell Schott also had a huge day for the Tigers. Schott, a junior, also set a school record with a 1:32.78 in the 200 free. The previous record-holder probably wasn't upset to see his mark fall, since it was a 1:33.37 from Schott a year ago. His time was the fifth-best nationally this season and also bettered the B standard. In addition to the 200 free, Schott also swam the 400 IM in 3:42.58, which is the third-best time in the country to date and was also a B standard qualifier.
Schott was also part of the winning 400 free relay, along with Dinu, Daniel Li and Logan Noguchi.
Aidan Wang won both diving events.
