Chea and Amanze Lead Women's Basketball Over Rhode Island, 66-54

PRINCETON – Ashley Chea scored 18 points while Tabitha Amanze registered a career-high 14 points as the Princeton Women's Basketball Team took down the Rhode Island Rams, 66-54, at Jadwin Gym.

After a three-pointer from Sophia Vital cut the Rhode Island deficit to four, 54-50, with 8:59 to go in the game, the Tigers turned up the defensive intensity and allowed the Rams to shoot 1-of-9 from the floor the rest of the way.

Rhode Island went 3-of-15 in the final 10 minutes while Mari Bickley scored all seven of her points during that stretch to pace the home team.

Amanze's personal mark came on 7-of-9 shooting while Fadima Tall also matched her personal best with 13 points, adding seven rebounds and five assists.

Princeton started off the game hot, scoring the first six points and 11 of the first 15 which led to a Rhode Island timeout. The Tigers led by nine in the first quarter before holding an 19-11 advantage as the second stanza got started.

The Rams ripped off eight straight points to get within one, 22-21, with 4:45 left in the first half, but the Tigers answered with an 8-0 sprint and took a 33-26 lead into the break.

Ahead 41-38, the Tigers got a three from Cristina Parrella and consecutive buckets from Amanze to go up double digits, making the Rams call timeout with 3:25 remaining in the third quarter. Princeton would go onto lead 51-44 after 30 minutes of action.

Head coach Carla Berube's team is now 6-4 on the season and will welcome Vermont to Jadwin Gym on December 21st at 12 p.m.
