THE ALL-TIME SERIES WITH YALE
One of Princeton's all-time oldest rivalries, the Tigers are 113-144-11 against Yale dating back to the first meeting in 1901. Princeton is 34-70-3 at Yale, including wins in each of its last two trips to The Whale. Overall, Princeton has won four of the last five meetings between the two teams. Earlier this season, the two teams played a fantastic overtime game which Adam Robbins won for the Tigers with 0:06 remaining in OT. David Jacobs had a goal and two assists in the game for the Tigers, while Arthur Smith made 24 saves for his first collegiate win.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES WITH BROWN
Princeton enters the weekend with a 77-92-11 record all-time against Brown, and a 35-47-5 record in Providence. The Tigers have won the last five meetings overall, including a 3-2 win in overtime at Baker Rink earlier this season. Princeton trailed, 2-0, before goals from Ian Murphy and Joe Berg (extra attacker goal with 1:05 left) forced overtime where Tyler Rubin netted the game-winner.
CARDIAC CATS
So far through 25 games this season, Princeton has reached overtime eight times, with another decided by one goal with under 1:00 left in regulation. The Tigers have won five of their eight overtime games during the 5:00 OT period and claimed the shootouts over Harvard an Union in official shootouts hel. The other OT game saw Sacred Heart "win" a shootout which has no bearing on anything.
Overall, the Tigers are 5-0-3 when games reach OT. There are seven teams in the country without a loss in overtime this season -- of that group only Minnesota (9) has played more OT games that Princeton and no team undefeated in OT has won more OT games than the Tigers.
The NCAA Record for OT wins in a season is 7 -- set by the 2011 Minnesota Duluth team and matched by Omaha this season. Seven teams in the history of NCAA Division I men's ice hockey have won six OT games in a season -- including Ferris State this season. The 2023-24 Princeton Tigers are one of 18 teams to win five OT games in a season -- including Arizona State and Colorado College as well this season.
One more OT win for Princeton this season will match the ECAC record for OT wins in a season currently held by Colgate (2008-09) and Cornell (1985-86).
GOING OVER OVERTIME
The 2023-24 Tigers have played eight total overtime games and won five entering this weekend -- setting a new program record for regular season OT wins (the 2006-07 and 1980-81 teams had won four regular season OT games). The high mark for overtime games played in a regular season by a Princeton team is nine (2006-07, 1997-98). In terms of a complete season including playoffs, the most OT games played were by the 2006-07 team which played in 11 and won five.
No need to rush back for the start of OT if the Tigers are playing. Princeton has played 35:43 of the possible 40:00 of OT this season -- 89% of the possible extra minutes. The earliest a Princeton game has ended in OT was 2:09 in against Brown and the other seven have either ended in the final minute of OT or gone the distance.
MR. CLUTCH
Adam Robbins now has three OT winners this season and four in his career. His three OT winners this season are tied for No. 2 by a player in the country with North Dakota's Jackson Blake. The NCAA leader is Colorado College's Noah Laba with four. Robbins also had the only goal in the shootout against Union to help the Tigers secure the extra point against the Garnet Chargers.
THE MURPH
For the second year in a row, Ian Murphy is the top returning scorer on the team. After posting 9-10-19 numbers in 2021-22, he tallied 15-14-29 last season to lead Princeton in goals, assists, and points. This year, he is just under a point-per-game player (6-9-15) to start the season with points in 13 of his 20 games -- including a seven-game point streak (2g, 6a) from 11/18-12/9. He missed five games with an injury suffered at Cornell before returning last weekend and scoring in his first game back.
CLIMBING THE CHARTS
Ian Murphy enters this weekend with 63 career points (30g, 33a) in 76 games. His 63 career points rank No. 56 all-time and No. 9 by a player who has played just three seasons.
JACK ATTACK
Jack Cronin struck for five PPGs and was second on the team with 12 goals overall last year. He scored 10 more goals last year than he did in his freshman season, and his 12-point growth from 2021-22 to 2022-23 was the most of any player on the team. Cronin's 25 career goals are second-most by an active Princeton player . He enters the night with points in 10 of his last 15 games (7g, 6a).
DE LA SOUL
Junior defenseman Noah de la Durantaye tallied a career-high 17 points last season, up from 10 as a rookie in 2021-22. He leads all returning defensemen in goals (4), assists (13) and points (17). This season, he has 19 points (3g, 16a) in 25 games played and has points in 8 of his last 9 games (2g, 8a) including a four-game point streak entering the weekend (1g, 4a).
GORMAN FAMILY SCORING RACE
Sophomore Brendan Gorman has chased down his older brother, Liam (Class of 2023), and father, Sean (Class of 1991) on his family's all-time scoring leader list.
1. Brendan Gorman -- 38 pts. (11g, 27a) in 55 games
2. Liam Gorman -- 36 pts. (16g, 20a) in 91 games
3. Sean Gorman -- 23 pts (5g, 18a) in 99 games
ABOUT ADAM
Over his first 49 games of college hockey, Adam Robbins tallied 15 points (5g, 10a, 0.3ppg). Since then, he has registered 39 points in 57 games played (15g, 24a, 0.7ppg). He has a career-high 25 points (10g, 15a) through 25 games this season, also setting career highs in goals and assists. He enters the game with points in 15 of his last 18 games, tallying 21 points (9g, 12a) in that span. Robbins scored the OTGWG against Yale, landing at #5 on that evening's Sportscenter Top-10 Plays -- the second time in his career he landed on the #SCtop10 following a penalty shot goal against Harvard on 1/6/23 which was #4.
