Six Finish In Double Figures As Men's Basketball Gets Past Columbia, 84-70

PRINCETON, N.J. – Powered by a balanced attack that included six double figure scorers, the Princeton University men's basketball team overcame Columbia Friday night inside Jadwin Gymnasium, 84-70.
Sophomore Caden Pierce led all scorers with 19 points on 7-for-14 shooting while also recording five rebounds and five assists. Junior Blake Peters set a new season-high with 17 points, a number that tied his career-high. Peters went 5-for-7 from three, also tying career-highs in made field goals and made three-pointers. Freshman Dalen Davis finished with a career-high 16 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field 4-for-6 shooting from three, with his made field goals and three-pointers being career-highs. In addition, Davis had a game and career-high three steals. Sophomore Xaivian Lee contributed 12 points, a game-high six assists, five rebounds and two steals while senior Zach Martini had 10 points and a team-high six rebounds, tying his season-high. Rounding out Princeton's double figure scorers was senior Matt Allocco, who recorded 10 points on 3-for-5 shooting.
As a team, the Tigers took care of the ball and only recorded six turnovers to 15 by Columbia.
Back-to-back three-point plays by Allocco and Pierce made it a three-point game with 8:35 remaining in the half, 21-18, before a Pierce three-pointer tied it up at 23-23 at 7:29. Princeton would shortly get ahead, 29-26, with 4:54 remaining in the half after three-pointers by Davis and Allocco. The Tigers closed the half out on a high note, with Martini draining a three with 1:07 left in the half that ignited a 7-0 run, punctuated by a Pierce dunk that gave Princeton a 41-30 lead with 0:04 on the clock. The Tigers would take a 41-33 advantage into halftime.
A Davis three-pointer followed by a Pierce jump hook extended Princeton's lead to double figures, 46-36, with 18:05 remaining. Princeton would soon go up 12 with 12:47 on the clock, 52-40, following a pair of free throws and layup by Pierce. An 8-0 run by the Lions narrowed the deficit to five, 52-47, with 10:51 left to play, but the Tigers would soon regain the momentum. Pierce completed a three-point play with 8:32 remaining that put Princeton in front, 60-51, then Davis drilled his fourth three-pointer with 7:00 on the clock to give the Tigers a 63-54 lead.
The Tigers host Cornell (21-5, 10-2) tomorrow night in the final regular season home game of the 2023-24 season at 7 p.m. A ceremony will be held honoring the Tigers' Class of 2024 at 6:45 p.m.

The Lions used an early 7-0 run to race out to a 7-2 lead with 16:14 on the clock, but a pull-up jumper from the short corner by Allocco followed by a Martini three-pointer tied it up at 7-7 with 15:28 left in the half.
