SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The No. 26 Princeton University men's tennis team fell just short to No. 22 Arizona State at the San Diego Invitational Saturday, 4-3.
"It was a great college tennis match yet a tough one to be on the losing end of," said Head Coach Billy Pate. "Our guys fought exceptionally hard against a great ASU squad and put themselves in a good position. We started with outstanding energy and execution in doubles and built solid momentum in getting to a 3-1 lead. Unfortunately, we got behind in each of the three third sets and couldn't quite find the finish line. We'll use it as fuel for tomorrow and be ready to go again."
The Tigers won the doubles point, as Landon Ardila and Ellis Short took down Murphy Cassone and Jacob Bullard at No. 2, 6-4, then No. 16 Paul Inchauspe and Filippos Astreinidis earned a 6-4 victory over No. 36 Bor Artnak and Max McKennon at No. 1.
In singles, Sebastian Sec prevailed at No. 3 over McKennon, 6-4, 6-2, and Landon Ardila overcame Jacob Bullard 6-4, 7-5 at No. 4.
