Fillier Finishes 30-Goal Season as No. 12 Princeton's ECAC Hockey Run Ends
March 02, 2024 | Women's Ice Hockey
Sarah Fillier scored twice to end her well-accoladed Princeton career on Saturday as the No. 12-ranked Tiger women's hockey team saw their ECAC Hockey tournament run end with a 6-3 loss to No. 3 Clarkson in the second game of the best-of-three quarterfinal series on Sunday.
Fillier finished with 30 goals to earn the 10th 30-goal season in program history, the first since former teammate Carly Bullock '20 scored 30 in 2020. It was just the program's second 30-goal season in the last 20 years and third of the 21st century, along with Gretchen Anderson '04, who had 30 in 2004.Â
Fillier's 93 career goals are the most since Bullock finished with 95 in 2020 and sixth-most all-time. Her 101 assists stand second, behind record holder Kathy Issel '95 (122), and her 194 points are fourth-most all-time and most since record holder Issel finished with 218 in 1995.
After a scoreless first period, Clarkson broke through with three second-period goals and added another in the first two minutes of the third period to take a 4-0 lead.Â
Emerson O'Leary got Princeton on the board 2:06 into the third, finishing a pass from Issy Wunder on the doorstep of the crease, and after Clarkson scored twice more, the last coming just past the midway point of the period, Fillier had her two goals in a span of just over a minute. The first of those came on a shot from the right faceoff dot, and the second came after Wunder found Fillier in the slot with eight-plus minutes left in the game.
Princeton finished the season with a record of 14-12-6 overall.
O'Leary and Wunder each finished with a three-point game as the sophomores finished second and third on the team in points on the season behind Fillier's 43, with Wunder's team-best 27 assists helping fuel her 35 points and O'Leary's 25 helpers, second on the team, helping her score 32 points. Junior blueliner Dominique Cormier had her eighth assist of the season.
