Columbia Rallies Past Softball Team to Wrap Weekend Series

A pair of seventh-inning runs lifted Columbia past the Princeton softball team 4-3 as the teams' opening Ivy League series wrapped on Sunday in New York.
Princeton took the lead on a solo home run from Sonia Zhang in the first inning and pushed it to 2-0 in the second inning when Caitlin Bish drove home a one-out walk to Grace Jackson with an outfield single after Jackson put herself in scoring position with a stolen base.
The lead became 3-0 in the fourth when a Bish double, a Sophia Marsalo single and a Zhang single loaded the bases for Julia Dumais, who drew a walk to force a run home. Columbia got the run back in the bottom of the fourth on a Cami Neal homer to make it 3-1.

Columbia cut it to 3-2 in the fifth on a walk and two hits as Neal drove in the run again, and though Princeton was able to keep the 3-2 lead into the seventh, a walk and two hits were costly as Neal struck again, driving home the tying run before a wild pitch brought home the game winner.
Cassidy Shaw threw 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks, striking out five, before giving way to Meghan Harrington for an inning and two thirds and then Brielle Wright for a third of an inning.
Princeton will host Rider for a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday in the Tigers' home opener.
