Playing at home for the first time this spring, the Princeton softball team swept Rider in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Princeton Softball Stadium at Strubing Field, 6-3 and 7-0.

The Tigers jumped on the Broncs early in both games. In the opener, Princeton had a 4-1 lead after two, using back-to-back triples from Sonia Zhang and Lauren Sablone and an Allison Ha sacrifice fly to score twice in the first and a hit batter, another Zhang triple and a Sablone hit to score twice more in the second.

Rider scored in the third and the fifth to make it a 4-3 game, but Princeton pushed it to 5-3 with a hit batter and a sacrifice putting Julia Dumais in scoring position for Caitlin Bish, who singled home the run. Princeton tacked on its final run in the sixth when a hit batter, a Sablone single and an error allowed Zhang to score.

Cassidy Shaw threw the first 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks, striking out three before Brielle Wright worked the final 2 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing just a hit without a walk.

A five-run first inning gave Princeton a 5-0 lead in the nightcap as Princeton had doubles in the inning from Zhang, Ha and Cate Bade and a base hit from Allie Goodwin, with Ha driving home two, Bade another, and Goodwin two for the five runs.

A hit batter, a walk and an error led to Princeton's sixth run in the second inning, and in the fourth, Dumais and Ha started the inning with singles before Karis Ford walked to load the bases and a throwing error allowed Dumais to score for the 7-0 lead.

Meghan Harrington threw five shutout innings in game two, allowing three hits and walking three, striking out four, before Molly Chambers completed the shutout with no hits and no walks allowed in two innings, striking out one.

Princeton will have its first home Ivy League games of the season on Saturday, hosting a doubleheader against Penn to start a three-game series.
