Softball Team Completes Weekend Sweep of Penn
March 31, 2024 | Softball
Julia Dumais and Allison Ha had back-to-back first-inning homers and the Princeton softball team led the rest of the way in completing a three-game weekend sweep of Penn on Sunday at Princeton Softball Stadium at Strubing Field with a 6-3 win.
Penn opened the scoring with two walks and a base hit in the top of the first to score a run, but a leadoff walk to Sonia Zhang put a runner on for Dumais to homer and put Princeton in the lead before Ha followed with a solo shot for a 3-1 lead.
A hit and a walk put two runners on for Dumais to get her third RBI of the day in the second inning, driving home a run with a base hit to give Princeton a 4-1 lead.Â
Penn had four hits in the third inning to get the deficit down to 4-3, but Princeton got both runs back between the fourth and fifth innings, with Graciela Dominguez scoring in the fourth on a passed ball after a hit and a walk in the fourth, and with Allie Goodwin and Grace Jackson doubling in the fifth.
Cassidy Shaw started the game and went the first three innings before Molly Chambers turned in a shutout inning and a third and Meghan Harrington followed with 2 2/3 of shutout work to close it out.
The win and results around the league lifted Princeton into a tie for first by winning percentage with fellow 4-2 Columbia and 6-3 Yale.
Princeton will head to Lehigh on Wednesday for a single game before returning to Ivy League play at Harvard next weekend.
