Sweep at Yale Vaults Softball Team Atop Ivy League
April 20, 2024 | Softball
Princeton now stands 10-4 in the Ivy with Yale at 12-5, Harvard at 10-6 and Columbia at 8-6 as the four teams presently in the Ivy League Tournament spots with Dartmouth (7-7), Brown (6-8), Cornell (3-11) and Penn (2-11) rounding out the league standings.
In the opener, Princeton got a Julia Dumais first-inning homer and a Karis Ford two-run third-inning homer to lead 3-1 after four. Yale responded with five runs between the fifth and sixth innings, and though Princeton got an Allie Goodwin RBI single to pick up a leadoff Dumais double in the sixth, the Tigers still trailed 6-4 headed to the seventh.
The last inning saw Sophia Marsalo draw a leadoff walk and Sonia Zhang get a base hit to put two runners on for Lauren Sablone, whose base hit cut the deficit to 6-5. After a Dumais flyout to put two runners in scoring position, Goodwin had the go-ahead two-RBI double to put Princeton up 7-6. Brielle Wright, who entered with two out in the sixth, picked up the win in retiring all four batters she faced.
