April 26, 2024 | Men's Rowing - Lightweight
PRINCETON – The No. 3 Princeton Men's Lightweight Team heads on the road to take on the No. 10 Yale Bulldogs and No. 1 Harvard Crimson Saturday.
The three Ivy foes will race on the Housatonic River for the Goldthwait and Vogel Cups. Princeton, Yale, and Harvard first started racing in1922 with the Tigers earning the first Goldthwait Cup. The Vogel Cup was first given out in 2008, given to the team with the most points.
The Crimson leads the all-time series 45-29 (Princeton)-20 (Yale).
Last year's Princeton's 1V took home the Goldthwait Cup with a thrilling .4-second victory (basically two seats) (5:40.5) over No. 4 Yale (5:40.9). The Tigers' second varsity won an even closer race by .2 seconds (5:43.1) over No. 5 Harvard (5:43.3).
Princeton and Yale were tied with 24 points so the 1V's win broke the tie, giving head coach Marty Crotty's crew the Vogel Cup.
Last week, Penn won the Wood-Hammond Cup by three tenths of a second (5:38.3) over Princeton (5:38.6). The Tigers earned the Fosburg Cup as Georgetown crossed the line at 5:50.3.
"Despite coming up short on a close loss last weekend, we trust our speed," said Adam Casler. "It's great to learn by winning, but sometimes it's even more beneficial to learn by losing. We head into our final and most historic matchup of the regular season with HYP this Saturday. Our collective goal for the season has been and continues to be building on our speed to be at our best when its IRA season. We've been doing just that and I'm excited to see how it reflects against two big opponents."
Schedule:
9:15 a.m. - 3V
9:45 a.m. - 2V
10:15 a.m. - 1V
