Princeton Heavyweight Rowing with Navy-Princeton Cup
No. 2 Heavies Takes Down No. 12 Navy
April 06, 2024 | Heavyweight Rowing
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Fighting through rough weather conditions, the No. 2 Princeton Heavyweight Rowing Team swept the races on the Severn River against the Naval Academy Midshipmen on Saturday afternoon.
"The Severn River serves up some of the craziest conditions I've ever seen," said Princeton head coach Greg Hughes. "It was challenging out there and I was very proud of the way our whole team stepped up and into the moment as did all of the Navy rowers. Our team learned some valuable lessons and we are looking forward to taking what we've learned into the racing ahead."
The Tigers earned the Navy-Princeton Cup (5:44.1) with a 6.1-second decision in the first event of the day. As the weather got worse, the 2V crossed the line at 5:52.0 in front of Navy by over 18 seconds (6:10.6).
Princeton's 3V (5:52.1) also collected a victory (6:00.8) as did the 4V (6:03.0) in a close race (6:03.6). The 5V event was cancelled and shortened to 1,000m because of the weather.
Hughes' squad is back in action next Saturday (Apr. 13) on Lake Carnegie vs. Penn and Columbia for the Childs Cup.
