Women's Crew Ready For Ivy League Rowing Championship This Weekend
May 17, 2024 | Women's Rowing - Open
PRINCETON – The No. 3 Princeton Women's Rowing Team heads to Cooper River for the 2024 Ivy League Rowing Championships this weekend.
Since 2019, the Ivy representative in the NCAA Rowing Championships is determined by the team that has the highest point total in the V8, 2V8 and V4 events.
That hasn't stopped the Tigers' Ivy streak which is currently up to six in a row. Before 2019, the Ivy representative has been determined by the winner of the 1V. Princeton's 1V has won eight of the last nine Ivy Grand Finals and has not finished off the medal stand since 2008.
"This weekend is a really exciting opportunity for the whole team to race together with a united goal," said Katherine George. "The Ivy Championships are an amazing opportunity to test our speed against some of the fastest women's teams in the country and its cool that this is an event that the whole program can participate in. It's a great weekend that is so inspirational as a female athlete as you get to celebrate the hard work of all the strong women you get to train with each day."
Action begins on Saturday with the Varsity 4B heats at 4:00 and 4:10 p.m. Heads run through 5:10 p.m. Grand Finals begin on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. and run through 9:30 a.m.
Last year, the Tigers won the Shoemaker Trophy by one point over Yale. The Orange and Black needed every one of the 32 team points awarded to the winner of the Varsity Eight as they entered the final race seven points behind Yale in the team standings. Princeton's win coupled with Yale's third-place finish in the 1V resulted in an eight-point difference in points accumulated in the race which was just enough for the Princeton win.
Head coach Lori Dauphiny's 1V has not lost all year in 2024, collecting wins over Brown, Harvard, Cornell, Rutgers, USC, Yale, Columbia, Northeastern, Notre Dame and Penn all by at least three seconds.
The Tigers had three alumnae named to the U.S. Rowing Olympic Team in Claire Collins '19, Emily Kallfelz '19 and Kesley Reelick '14. They will race in either the four or eight boats.
