No. 3 Men's Lightweight Rowing Set For IRA Championships To Cap Off 2024 Campaign

PRINCETON – The No.3 Men's Lightweight Rowing Teams heads to Mercer Lake for the IRA Championships.
Racing starts on Friday with heats beginning at 8 a.m. Semifinals go off on Saturday with Grand Finals on Sunday.
The Tigers' 1V comes in at No. 3 in the IRCA Varsity Poll while the 2V is No. 3.
Princeton's only two losses during the regular season came to Penn and No. 1 Harvard while it also earned victories over Navy, Columbia, Dartmouth, Cornell, Georgetown and Yale.
At Eastern Sprints, the 2V collected silver while the 1V earned bronze.
In the 2023 IRA Grand Final for the men's lightweight first varsity, the Tigers trailed by two one-hundreds of a second behind Harvard at the 500m but used a 1:25 split to go in front by 1.4 seconds. The Crimson closed the gap to under a half second with 500m left, but the boat of Adam Casler, Nick Aronow, Hidde Lycklama, George Dickinson, Ethan Abraham, Aaron Wenk, Reuben Cook, William Olson and David Van Velden pulled away, finishing with a 5:41.02, 1.8 seconds clear.
It was the first varsity eight title for Princeton at IRAs since 2010. The Tigers' wins in the 1V and 2V secured the IRA's President's Cup, awarded to the top point total for the men's lightweights. It's the sixth time the Tigers have done that, the last coming in 2010.
Princeton last won back-to-back IRA golds in 2009-10. The Tigers' 1V has won the grand final three other times in 1994, 1996 and 1998 and won the National Championship regatta in 1986, 1988 and 1989.
