June 02, 2024 | Heavyweight Rowing
WEST WINDSOR - The Princeton Heavyweight Rowing Team finished second in the Ten Eyck Standings at the IRA National Championships on Sunday morning.
The Tigers' second-place finish was the highest mark for the team since 2016 and was the best score among all East Coast schools, trailing only Washington. They have climbed from eighth in 2022 to fourth in 2023 to today's second-place tally.
"I am extremely proud of our team's performance at IRAs," said Princeton head coach Greg Hughes. "As a team, it was our strongest performance in over a decade and it was great to see the way our team stacked up amongst the best teams in the country."
The 3V (5:41.47) beat out Cal (5:41.56) in photo finish to collect the silver medal, behind just Washington (5:39.0), a five-spot improvement from last season. The 3V used a 1:24.95 split in the final 500m to catch the Bears and secure the boat's first IRA medal since 2016.
Princeton's 1V corralled fourth overall in its Grand Final (5:34.46) behind Washington (5:27.23), Harvard (5:28.9) and Cal (5:30.4).
