Tom George '18 has reached an Olympic Final for the second time in his career, finishing second in the men's pair 'B' semifinal to transfer through to the final on August 2.
Already a bronze medalist from the men's eight in Tokyo, George will row for his second Olympic medal alongside teammate Oliver Wynne-Griffith. The duo were third throughout the opening 1000m before overtaking Ireland at the midway point en route to second place.
With only three transfer spots available, it was important for George and Wynne-Griffith to put forward some breathing room as Ireland, the eventual third-place finisher for the final qualification to the final, was just 0.55 ahead of fourth-place New Zealand. Romania was first in a time of 6:29.86.
"We are thrilled for Tom as an alum of our program," said head coach Greg Hughes. "His dedication to his craft is remarkable and to qualify for two Olympic Finals in a career is amazing. It has been an amazing Olympic Regatta for the Princeton Boathouse, and I can't wait to watch another of our alumni row for an Olympic medal."
