Hannah Scott's Olympic dream came true in memorable fashion as her Great Britain crew chased down The Netherlands in the final meters to win the gold medal in women's quad sculls.
Scott and her team were a comfortable second throughout the race, but closed bit-by-bit on the Dutch crew over the final half of the race.
Ultimately, a race that navigates 2000 meters was decided in the final five as just when it seemed the final order was decided, Scott and crew charged forward with a final push that will go down in both British Olympic lore and the annals of amazing Olympic finishes across all sports.
When all was said and done, those last strokes resulted in a winning margin of 0.15 seconds for Great Britain and a trip to the top of the Olympic medal stand.
"What a day for Hannah, her country and Princeton," said head coach Lori Dauphiny. "That was one of the most remarkable finishes I have ever seen and is such a testament to her hard work and perseverance. I am thrilled for Hannah and her family and all of her supporters back in Princeton and at home in Britain."
Scott's gold medal is the 34th all-time for a Princeton athlete and first rowing gold since Caroline Lind '06 went back-to-back in the eight for the U.S. at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. It is the fifth gold medal overall for a Princeton rower, male or female.
