Bird Returns to Olympic Steeplechase Final

For the second consecutive Olympic Games, Lizzie Bird '17 raced to a spot in the 3,000-meter steeplechase final on Sunday, taking fourth in her heat in 9:16.46.
The top five runners from each of the three heats moved on, with just 1.36 seconds separating first from sixth in Bird's heat. Tuesday's final is set for a 3:14 p.m. ET start.
Bird made the final three years ago in Tokyo, finishing ninth in 9:19.68.
At Princeton, Bird was a 2015 honorable mention All-America in the steeplechase, winning Ivy titles in the race in 2015 and 2017.
