After missing the entirety of the 2023-24 season with injury, Catherine Rao returned to Princeton's lineup in victorious fashion as she earned medalist honors at the Nittany Lion Invitational to pace the Tigers to the overall team title.
Rao finished -5 overall to claim her first solo championship to go with a co-medalist finish at the 2023 Columbia Classic. She opened with a five-under 67 in Saturday's first round before adding a two-under 69 in the afternoon. On Sunday, she was +2 but had more than enough cushion to finish ahead of teammate Abra Richmond who was second at -2 overall.
Richmond, competing in her first collegiate tournament, was even par or better in all three rounds. She opened with a 72 (E) and then followed with back-to-back rounds of 71 (-1) to finish as the only other player under par in the field.
As a team, Princeton finished at +10 to win the tournament -- 15 strokes ahead of second-place Harvard. The Tigers were +1 in each of Saturday's rounds before posting a +8 team score on Sunday in tough scoring conditions -- no team in the field had a better team score than +8 in the final round. The team championship is the first for Princeton since winning the 2022 Ivy League Championship.
