Schott and Men's Swimming & Diving Start Strong On Day 1 Of Navy/Kenyon Meet
January 10, 2025 | Men's Swimming and Diving
PRINCETON, N.J.- Mitchell Schott is a threat to do something unprecedented any time he takes to the pool. The Princeton junior did so again Friday night, when he added another school record in his only individual swim of the night, this time the 1,000 freestyle.
Schott swam an 8:52.19 in the 1,000, giving him the Princeton record and leading a 1-2-3 Tiger finish during Day 1 of Princeton's tri-meet with Kenyon and the Naval Academy. Princeton finished Friday's part of the meet with big leads over both opponents, 147-58 over Navy and 168-35 over Kenyon.
Schott's 1,000 time was nine seconds better than teammate Santiago Gutierrez 9:01.54, who in turn was 14 seconds better than Connor Buck in third place. Schott also swam on Princeton's winning 400 medley relay, anchoring the first place finish along with Tyler Hong, Patrick Dinu and Conor McKenna. Princeton was also second in the relay, with Parker Lenoce, Andrew Zou, Logan Noguchi and Daniel Li.
It was a big night for Zou, who also finished second in the 100 breaststroke in 53.38, which was both the Princeton freshman record and an NCAA B qualifying time.
The meet began with a Princeton win in the 200 free relay with Brett Feyerick, Dinu, Yanning Zhang and McKenna. Noah Sech won the 400 individual medley in 3:47.09, a B standard time. Teammates Arthur Balva (second) and Maxwell Seidel (fourth) followed him to the wall.
Dinu won the 200 free, with Lenoce in third, and the Tigers went 1-3-4 in the 100 backstroke, with an NCAA B time of 46.78 from winner Tyler Hong, followed by Zhang and Feyerick. Balva won the 200 butterfly, with Noguchi second and Hunter Kim third. Feyerick won the 50 free.
The meet concludes Saturday, beginning at 11.
