Men’s Tennis Earns First Win Of The New Season

SOUTH BEND, IND.- In the season opener, the Princeton men's tennis team took care of business with a 5-2 victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

"It's a tough assignment to go on the road in the first dual match of the year against a really good team," head coach Billy Pate said. "I'm pleased with how the guys came out and played confidently. We had some chances to clinch the win earlier but ND really fought and clawed back into the match as the last three matches went the distance. It really hung in the balance until Top was able to get the fourth point. There are always areas to improve and we'll get right back to work tomorrow preparing for a double header at Wisconsin on Sunday."

The Tigers picked up the doubles point with Fnu Nidunjianzan and Ellis Short picking up the 6-3 win over Kyran Magimay and Chase Thompson. The pairing of Landon Ardila and Filippos Astreinidis finished things off with a 6-4 victory against Jameson Corsillo and Yu Zhang.

In singles, Ardila and Short made quick work of their matches. Ardila bested Thompson 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 as Short defeated Magimay in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

The final three matches each went to three sets, however Nidunjianzan was able to clinch the match with a victory over Zhang, 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 at No. 2.
