Men’s Tennis Sweeps Sunday Matches Versus DePaul, Wisconsin
January 19, 2025 | Men's Tennis
MADISON, Wis.- The Sunday doubleheader provided two opportunities for the Tigers to get back into the swing of things. Both matches told two very different stories.
Princeton completed the sweep in the morning matchup over DePaul after securing the doubles point. Fnu Nidunjianzan and Ellis Short teamed up to defeat Jona Gitschel and Matteo Iaquinto 6-3 before Paul Inchauspe and Filippos Astreinidis took down Pablo Torres Almeida and Tobias Leitner 6-3.
Meecah Bigun and Milan Markovits each picked up their first collegiate wins.
Princeton won every set in singles in straight sets as Ardila clinched the victory for the Tigers with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Andy Hadziabdic.
The afternoon matchup between Princeton and the Wisconsin Badgers went the opposite way and came down to the wire.
The duos of Inchauspe and Astreinidis and Nidunjianzan and Short continued their winning ways by winning another doubles point for the Tigers.
"Wisconsin really played inspired tennis in singles and put us on our heels," head coach Billy Pate said. "We really had to dig in and battle to get the win. We didn't close on a couple of those but I'm very proud of how we battled through for the second match of the day. Our fitness really showed and I know this match will help us as we expect to be in several battles this spring."
The excitement ramped up as Landon Ardila improved to 3-0 on the season with his 6-3, 6-2 victory against Matthew Fullerton.
Wisconsin picked up a win but Inchauspe bumped the lead back to 2-1, as he claimed the match with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 versus Michael Minasyan.
Nidunijianzan closed the door on the Badgers in a three-set thriller against Tomas Zlatohlavek which ended with a score 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 and a Princeton undefeated weekend.
