Eligh Rivera Named Ivy Co-Wrestler of the Week
January 28, 2025 | Wrestling
PRINCETON, N.J. – After a standout 2-0 weekend, Eligh Rivera was named Ivy League Co-Wrestler of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. The honor is Rivera's first of his career.
#25 Rivera had strong performances in Princeton's duals against Rider on Friday and Columbia on Sunday.
Against Rider's #29 McKenzie Bell, Rivera found himself in overtime as the clock ran out with both wrestlers tied up at five apiece. As the whistle blew again, Rivera wrestled hard to get a takedown in just under a minute, taking the sudden victory decision 8-5 in front of an electrified bench and Jadwin crowd.
Repeating his success on Sunday against Columbia's Kai Owen, Rivera found himself down 3-0 after the first period, but he was able to climb all the way back to get a major decision, 16-7, adding to the Tigers' lead as they would go on to win 34-3.
With his two wins this weekend, Rivera is now 11-4 on the season, as the sophomore out of Orlando continues a series of strong performances that includes two tech falls and a pin. He also won third place in the 141 class at the F&M Open on January 10.
Rivera and the Tigers will be back in action this weekend, first on the road in Philly for a dual with Drexel on Saturday, before continuing Ivy play by hosting Brown and Harvard on Sunday.
