PRINCETON, N.J. – Roka Tsunehara was named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
The award comes after a series of consistent performances from sophomore right-back Tsunehara, as he continues to play a critical role in the Tigers' success this season.
On Saturday, Tsunehara helped secure the Princeton back line as they earned a 2-0 shutout over Ivy rival Columbia. It marked the Tigers' eighth shutout of the season.
Helping Princeton on both ends of the pitch, however, Tsunehara also helped the Tigers generate chances in both the 2-0 win over Columbia and their 1-1 draw at JMU on Tuesday.
Combined, Tsunehara put up five shots and three on goal across the two matches.
Starting each of the Tigers' 12 matches this season, Tsunehara has one goal and three assists to his credit so far. He has helped Princeton to an impressive goal differential of 18, as the Tigers have allowed just four goals all season.
This marks the first time Tsunehara has earned Ivy Player of the Week honors.
Tsunehara and the #5 Tigers will be back in action tomorrow as they host #2 Bryant for a top-five non-conference finale. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. in Roberts Stadium.
