#13 Tigers to Host Brown for Ivy Home Opener

PRINCETON, N.J. – Returning home after two weeks on the road, the no. 13 Princeton men's soccer team will host Brown for its Ivy League home opener on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. in Roberts Stadium.

Last Time Out
Princeton most recently closed out a three-game road stint at West Point on Tuesday, where the Tigers downed the Black Knights 2-0. Kevin Kelley and Jackson Martin scored bookend goals in the eighth and 84th minutes to make it six consecutive wins for the Tigers, while keeper Andrew Samuels made five saves to get the shutout in goal.Â

Before that, the Tigers opened up Ivy League play on the road in Cambridge, where the Tigers took a 1-0 win after a defensive battle which saw Daniel Ittycheria score the lone goal of the contest and Samuels come up with big saves to keep the Crimson shut out.
For his impressive performance, which included a save on a penalty kick and another on a direct free kick just outside the box, Samuels was named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for the second-consecutive week.
Samuels' Saves
Samuels has been in goal for all seven of the Tigers' matchups this season, allowing just one goal in the last five games and just three on the season.Â

The junior Burlingame, Calif. native ranks 7th nationally and first in the Ivy League in goals-against average with 0.375.Â

Samuels also ranks fifth in the country in save percentage, tallying an impressive 0.893.
With six shutouts, Samuels ranks 12th in the country.

Offensive LeadersÂ
Ittycheria leads the Tigers with four goals on the season, scoring three game-winners on the way. The stat puts him at sixth in the nation and first in the Ivy League.

Four other Tigers have multiple goals on the season, including senior defender Jack Jasinski, who scored three goals and tallied three assists in the Tigers' first four games. He leads the Tigers with nine points on the season.Â
First-year Jackson Martin has three goals on the season, while Kevin Kelley and Bardia Hormozi each have two to their credit.

Sophomore Roka Tsunehara also has three assists and a goal on the season.Â

Princeton currently ranks first in the nation in RPI. The Tigers entered the United Soccer Coaches poll at #13 this week, marking the first time Princeton has been ranked since 2010.

The Tigers sit at ninth nationally in won-lost-tied percentage.Â

Difficult to score against, Princeton ranks fifth in save percentage with 0.897, sixth in goals allowed average and 10th in shutout percentage.
Hungry Tigers
The defending Ivy League Tournament Champions return to Roberts this year after a successful 2024 season that saw the Tigers go 12-7 and make an NCAA Tournament appearance.Â

Princeton was picked to finish second in the Ivy League preseason poll, receiving five first-place votes.Â

The Tigers return 24 players this season, accounting for 70% (21 of 30) goals and 85% of assists (24 of 28). Of the 24 returners, 11 are seniors.Â

Keeping an Eye Out
Key returning seniors Ittycheria, Giuliano Fravolini Whitchurch and Jasinski were named United Soccer Coaches Players to Watch in their respective positions this preseason.

Whitchurch was named to the MAC Hermann Watch List earlier this month, as the centerback was one of just seven defenders and 29 players to be selected nationally. His leadership on the back line helped Princeton to a goals-against average of 1.16 in 2024, and he was named to the First Team All-Ivy and the Ivy League All-Tournament Team.

Jasinski led the Tigers in assists with nine last season, putting him third in the Princeton record book for assists in a single season. With three already this season, he now holds fourth in career assists with 19.

Jasinski and Ittycheria were both named to the 2024 Second Team All-Ivy.

Called Up
Ittycheria was drafted by D.C. United in the 2025 MLS Superdraft. He was selected in the second round as the 40th overall pick after leading the Tigers in goals in both 2024 and 2023.Â

In 2024, Ittycheria logged nine goals and one assist. Three of those goals came during the Ivy League Tournament, for which he was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.Â

This preseason, Ittycheria was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer Second Team.

Captains
Whitchurch and Jack Hunt were named captains to lead the 2025 squad. Hunt, a midfielder from Coronado, Calif., was a 2024 All-Ivy Honorable Mention. Both captains hail from California, with Whitchurch coming from San Diego.Â

Princeton welcomes seven talented newcomers in the class of 2029 this season in Tyler Vilet, Ben Manfroy, Frederik Sadjak, Jackson Martin, Tyler Austin, Ryker Joutz and Giacomo Gabrielli.
