PRINCETON, N.J. – Returning to Roberts Stadium with a solid Ivy League win, the #13 Princeton men's soccer team shut out Brown, 1-0, on Saturday. Bardia Hormozi scored the lone goal for the Tigers with his third of the year.
"I thought the guys played well from start to finish tonight against a very good Brown team. We pushed hard for the second goal but when it didn't come the guys in the back and Andrew did another great job of securing a shut out." - Head Coach Jim Barlow
With the win, Princeton improves to 8-1 on the season, while Brown falls to 5-3-1. The Tigers are now 2-0 in Ivy League play, while Brown is 1-1.
How It Happened
Princeton dominated from the whistle, generating chance after chance as they kept the game largely in the Bears' half.
Just two minutes in, Kevin Kelley sent in a shot that went just to the left of the goal. Sam Vigilante followed up just minutes later with a shot of his own, forcing a save from the Brown keeper Max Pfaffman.
Despite a few counter-presses, Brown was not able to generate a shot until the 30th minute, when Timi Browne sent a ball rolling towards Tiger keeper Andrew Samuels, who collected.
In the 33rd minute, on another press, Liam Beckwith sent a cross into the box where Hormozi got a head on it to send it towards the goal. Deflecting off Pfaffman, Hormozi picked up his own rebound and sent the ball into the bottom left of the net, putting the Tigers up 1-0.
Princeton continued to press and Brown, on a counter, forced another save from Samuels, but the half closed with the 1-0 score.
Coming out of the break, Princeton continued to dominate as they would take another 10 shots over the next 45 minutes.
A good chance from Tyler Vilet was stopped by Pfaffman in the 57th, with Vigilante forcing another save just minutes later.
Despite continuing to knock on the door, Princeton would not be able to find another goal.
With just two minutes remaining, the Bears had their best chance of the game as Isaiah Robledo launched a ball towards the goal, forcing a diving save by Samuels, who kept Brown shut out.
As the clock ran down to zero, the 1-0 score stood to hand Princeton its seventh consecutive victory and second in the Ivy League.
