#9 Princeton Heads to Cornell for Ivy League Battle

PRINCETON, N.J. – Hitting the road for an Ivy League battle in Ithaca, the #9 Princeton men's soccer team will take on Cornell this Saturday, Oct. 11. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Berman Field.
Last Time Out
Princeton most recently hosted Brown on Saturday for its Ivy League home opener, returning to Roberts after a three-game road stint. The Tigers shut out the Bears to take the win, 1-0, to improve to 8-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Ivy League. Bardia Hormozi scored the lone goal of the contest.
Recording two shutouts last week, the Tigers finished their road trip at West Point, where Princeton got the 2-0 win.
For his consistent success, Samuels was named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for the third-consecutive week.
Princeton also won its Ivy League opener on the road in Cambridge as they blanked Harvard 1-0.
In The Rankings
Princeton currently ranks first in the nation in RPI. The Tigers were ranked no. 9 in the nation in this week's United Soccer Coaches poll, marking the highest Princeton has been ranked in program history.
The Tigers sit at fifth nationally in won-lost-tied percentage.
Difficult to score against, Princeton ranks second in the country in goals allowed. The Tigers are also fourth in save percentage with 0.906 and sixth in shutout percentage.
Samuels' Saves
Samuels has been in goal for all nine of the Tigers' matchups this season, allowing just one goal in the last seven games and just three on the season.
The junior Burlingame, Calif. native ranks third nationally and first in the Ivy League in goals-against average with 0.33.
Samuels also ranks third in the country in save percentage, tallying an impressive 0.903.
With six shutouts, Samuels ranks eighth in the country.
Offensive Leaders
Ittycheria leads the Tigers with four goals on the season, scoring three game-winners on the way. The stat puts him at seventh in the nation and first in the Ivy League.
Senior defender Jack Jasinski and junior forward Bardia Hormozi each have three goals and three assists to their credit for a squad-high nine points.
First-year Jackson Martin also has three goals, while junior Kevin Kelley has two.
Hungry Tigers
The defending Ivy League Tournament Champions return to Roberts this year after a successful 2024 season that saw the Tigers go 12-7 and make an NCAA Tournament appearance.
Princeton was picked to finish second in the Ivy League preseason poll, receiving five first-place votes.
The Tigers return 24 players this season, accounting for 70% (21 of 30) goals and 85% of assists (24 of 28). Of the 24 returners, 11 are seniors.
Keeping an Eye Out
Key returning seniors Ittycheria, Giuliano Fravolini Whitchurch and Jasinski were named United Soccer Coaches Players to Watch in their respective positions this preseason.
Whitchurch was named to the MAC Hermann Watch List earlier this month, as the centerback was one of just seven defenders and 29 players to be selected nationally. His leadership on the back line helped Princeton to a goals-against average of 1.16 in 2024, and he was named to the First Team All-Ivy and the Ivy League All-Tournament Team.
Jasinski led the Tigers in assists with nine last season, putting him third in the Princeton record book for assists in a single season. With three already this season, he now holds fourth in career assists with 19.
Jasinski and Ittycheria were both named to the 2024 Second Team All-Ivy.
Called Up
Ittycheria was drafted by D.C. United in the 2025 MLS Superdraft. He was selected in the second round as the 40th overall pick after leading the Tigers in goals in both 2024 and 2023.
In 2024, Ittycheria logged nine goals and one assist. Three of those goals came during the Ivy League Tournament, for which he was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
This preseason, Ittycheria was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer Second Team.
Captains
Whitchurch and Jack Hunt were named captains to lead the 2025 squad. Hunt, a midfielder from Coronado, Calif., was a 2024 All-Ivy Honorable Mention. Both captains hail from California, with Whitchurch coming from San Diego.
About the Newcomers
Princeton welcomes seven talented newcomers in the class of 2029 this season in Tyler Vilet, Ben Manfroy, Frederik Sadjak, Jackson Martin, Tyler Austin, Ryker Joutz and Giacomo Gabrielli.
Martin has three goals on the season already, while Sadjak has one start.
About Coach Barlow
Head coach Jim Barlow is in his 29th season as the men's soccer head coach and has accumulated 230 career wins with the Tigers, the most for any soccer coach in Princeton history, men's or women's. Barlow was also named the 2021 Ivy League Coach of the Year.

Cornell is 7-1-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Ivy League, sharing the top spot in the league standing with the Tigers. Cornell was ranked as high as 23rd in the United Soccer Coaches poll on September 9.
Zapata Sergio and Westin Carnevale each have four goals on the season, putting them third and fourth respectively in the Ivy League. Giorgos Diakos is second in the league in assists (5), shots per game (3.22) and shots on goal (13). Diakos's three goals and five assists combine for a squad-high 11 points.
Goalkeeper Ryan Friedberg has been between the posts for all nine of the Big Red's matches, posting a 0.45 GAA and an 0.840 save percentage. He ranks third in the Ivy League in both stats, and has a total of five shutouts on the season.
Princeton is 56-40-14 all-time against Cornell, with the series dating back to 1908.
The most recent meeting was in the Ivy League tournament last year, when the Tigers took down the Big Red in double overtime in the semifinal, 3-2, to advance to the tournament final. Ittycheria scored two goals in that contest, including the first and the game-winner as Princeton got the comeback victory.
