PRINCETON – The Princeton Women's Basketball Team was in its Get Stops Era, dropping the DePaul Blue Demons, 71-41, at Jadwin Gym on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers opened the contest with the first seven points and 12 of the first 14 before settling with a 17-8 lead after 10 minutes. Princeton held DePaul to just three baskets in that stretch.
Head coach Carla Berube's squad began the second stanza with a 12-2 sprint, stretching its lead to 17, 29-12, with 6:52 to go, forcing a DePaul timeout. A 10-3 run by the Blue Demons to end the second quarter cut their deficit to 12, 37-25, at the break.
After two free throws from DePaul to begin the second half, Princeton ripped off 13 consecutive points to go up 23, 50-27, and put the game away. DePaul never got within 18 the rest of the way.
Ashley Chea led all scorers with 22 points, hitting six treys, adding five rebounds and three assists. Taylor Charles, in her first career start, posted five points, nine rebounds, three assists and seven blocks. It's the first time a Princeton Tiger had seven swats in a contest since Bella Alarie in 2018.
Princeton allowed a season-low 41 points and gave up single digits in three of the four frames. DePaul shot 23.1 percent overall (15-65) in the loss.
The Tigers improved to 7-1 overall while DePaul fell to 2-6. Berube's team welcomes Seton Hall to Jadwin Gym on Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
