Men's Basketball Drops Season Opener at Akron

AKRON, Ohio – The Princeton University men's basketball team fell to Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) preseason favorite Akron in its 2025-26 season opener Saturday afternoon inside James A. Rhodes Arena, 104-69.
Junior Jackson Hicke led the Tigers in scoring with a career-high 15 points on 5-for-10 shooting, while junior Dalen Davis also finished in double figures with 11 points. Sophomore Jack Stanton added eight points and a team-high six rebounds for Princeton.
The game began as a back-and-forth battle, with Stanton's second three-pointer of the game tying it, 13-13, with 14:44 on the clock. With 13:54 left in the half, the Zips went on a 19-0 run to surge ahead, 32-13, at 7:28. Freshman Sebastian Whitfield connected on his first career field goal, a three-pointer, with 5:43 left in the half. A Hicke layup followed by a pair of junior Jacob Huggins free throws made it 36-22 with 2:45 remaining in the half, but Akron would bury a three-pointer with 0:03 on the clock and take a 47-27 advantage into halftime.
While the Zips stayed hot throughout the second half, freshman Jacob Hammond made his first career field goal with 14:15 left to play, and freshman Landon Clark his first career three-pointer at 13:18. Freshman Cash McSweeney also made his first career goal, a three-pointer, with 6:77 on the clock, as did freshman Jake Sussberg at 4:12. Akron would hold on for the 104-69 victory.
