Men's Basketball Falls at Loyola-Chicago, 73-68

CHICAGO – Despite leading by 11 points in the first half, the Princeton University men's basketball team could not hold inside Gentile Arena Saturday against Loyola-Chicago, falling just short to the Ramblers with a final score of 78-63.
Sophomore Jack Stanton led the Tigers in scoring with 14 points and grabbed five rebounds. Junior Jackson Hicke also scored in double figures with 13 points on 6-for-12 shooting and tallied five rebounds while freshman Sebastian Whitfield was Princeton's third double figure scorer with 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
With 17:59 on the clock a layup by Hicke ignited a 12-0 run, of which Hicke contributed nine points, that saw the Tigers jump out to a 12-5 advantage with 14:25 remaining in the half. Princeton soon extended its lead to double figures, with a three-pointer by Whitfield then a Hicke step-back jumper putting the Tigers up, 19-9, at 8:57.
Loyola-Chicago would battle back and use a 9-0 run to narrow the deficit down to two, 22-20, with 4:10 left in the half., then took a 27-25 lead with 1:32 on the clock. A three-pointer by Stanton at 1:14 gave the Tigers a 28-27 lead, but the Ramblers took a 30-28 advantage into halftime.
Princeton quickly retook the lead, 33-32, after a pair of Whitfield free throws with 18:15 remaining. The Tigers and Loyola-Chicago continued to trade leads, with three Stanton free throws putting the Tigers in front, 48-46, at 12:40.
The Ramblers and Tigers continued to trade the lead back and forth, but a 10-0 Loyola-Chicago run gave the Ramblers a 62-53 advantage at 4:31. Princeton showed no quit, with a three-pointer by Stanton with 1:06 left to playing making it a five-point game at 70-65.Depsite the late rally, Loyola-Chicago held on for the 73-68 win.
