Gutierrez, Lenoce School Records Highlight Princeton Men's Big Al Championship
December 06, 2025 | Men's Swimming and Diving
Santiago Gutierrez and Parker Lenoce both set school records as Princeton finished the 2025 Big Al Invitational with a convincing team championship Saturday night at DeNunzio Pool.
Gutierrez finished the 1,650 freestyle in 14:45.61, taking 13 seconds off the old school record in the event. The old record holder couldn't have been too upset about the shattering of his record, since it also belonged to Gutierrez, a sophomore who set that mark while winning last year's Ivy League championship. Gutierrez, who is the only Princeton swimmer ever to go under 15 minutes in the event, won the race Saturday night by an astonishing 26 seconds while also bettering the DIvision I qualifying standard of 15:06.6.
Lenoce set his record in the 200 back with a swim of 1:41.35, which also was below the D1 qualifying standard. Lenoce broke Tyler Hong's record by 0.22 seconds.
The two records helped Princeton to a first-place team finish with 1,491.5 points, well ahead of second-place Columbia, with 1,269.5. Penn had 1,002, with Utah at 105 and Cornell at 46.
Mitchell Schott added another individual win with a win in the 200 fly in 1:42.05, a time that was also under the D1 standard. Schott won the 200 freestyle Friday.
Princeton's other winners Saturday night were Conor McKenna in the 50 butterfly (with teammate Alex Townsend second) and the 400 free relay team of Schott, Daniel Li, Lucas Tudoras and Jake Tarara.
Princeton is off until after the New Year after the Big Al victory.
