Mitchell Schott Breaks Michael Phelps' Lejeune Hall Record in 200 Freestyle

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – After winning eight out of his 28 gold medals at the 2008 Olympics, Michael Phelps set a Lejeune Hall record of 1:33.14 in the 200 freestyle just one year later in 2009. That record stood until today, when Mitchell Schott of the No. 22 Princeton University men's swimming & diving team finished in 1:32.72, setting a new pool record and winning the event at a meet that included Navy, Delaware and Kenyon.

While the 200 freestyle was a historic race for Schott, he also earned NCAA qualifying time. Two other Tigers finished in the top eight; Daniel Li (1:37.98) and Jack Haley (1:38.20).
Schott also touched first and earned an NCAA qualifying time in the 200 butterfly (1:43.48), an event where Arthur Balva came in second (1:45.53), Conor McKenna fourth (1:46.29) and John Rusnock fifth (1:46.84).
The 200 freestyle relay, comprising of Logan Noguchi, Jake Tarara, Yanning Zhang and Patrick Dinu, earned a first place finish in 1:17.72.
The 400 IM saw the top four finishes go to Princeton; Devyn Caples was first (3:51.65), Balva second (3:52.46), Jiarui Xue third (3:53.24) and Lucas Strobek fourth (3:53.25).
The Tigers had a successful day on the boards, with Aidan Wang winning on 1-meter (346.90). Chase Sorosky took second (291.10), Luka Martinovic third (288.75) and Taso Callanan fourth (283.60).
Princeton earned a 1-2-3 sweep in the 1000 freestyle. Xue won the event (9:02.61) while Santiago Gutierrez finished second (9:02.87) and Cole Kawaja third (9:06.48). In addition, Max Marcus finished fifth (9:18.35).
The Tigers had four finish inside the top eight in the 50 freestyle, with Dinu finishing second (19.67), Alex Townsend fourth (19.98), Tarara fifth (19.99) and Noguchi sixth (20.00).
In the 100 backstroke, Parker Lenoce took second (47.11), and Zhang fifth (47.60).
Lenoce, Lam, Townsend and Schott took second in the 400 medley relay (3:09.49).
Lam finished third (54.08) in the 100 breaststroke while Andrew Zou came in fifth (54.74).
