No. 5 Texas A&M Uses Early Lead to Take Weekend Opener from Softball Team
February 27, 2025 | Softball
Four runs across the first two innings lifted No. 5 Texas A&M to an early lead, and the host Aggies made it stand up in a 5-0 win over the Princeton softball team on Thursday night.
The Tigers will turn right around for two on Friday back at Texas A&M, first against No. 13 Texas Tech at 12:30 p.m. ET before a game against Texas State at 5:30 p.m. ET. Live scoring for the games will be here.
Texas A&M scored three in the first on two hits, an error, a walk and a hit batter with KK Dement doubling home the last two of the three runs. The Aggies added another in the second on two base hits around a stolen base to make it 4-0.
Keala Hollenkamp entered later in the second in relief of Cassidy Shaw and put together a string of seven consecutive batters retired before the Aggies struck in the fifth, using a double and a single to start the inning and add the fifth run. Brielle Wright entered with two out in the fifth and set down each of the four batters she faced.Â
Princeton had five hits in the game, with Graciela Dominguez and Sonia Zhang each getting two of those, Dominguez on singles in the third and fifth innings and Zhang singling in the second and sixth innings. Abby Hornberger doubled in the sixth before Zhang's base hit, but pinch runner Julieta Roa came up just short of beating the throw home.Â
Sidne Peters went the distance in the circle for the Aggies, getting eight strikeouts and walking one along with the five hits allowed.
