Texas Tech, Texas State Take Pair From Softball Team

No. 13-ranked Texas Tech and Texas State handed the Princeton softball team a pair of defeats on Friday as the Tigers' trip to Texas A&M continued, with Texas Tech winning 12-0 in five innings and Texas State winning 12-4 in six.
Princeton will wrap its visit to College Station with a pair of games on Saturday, first against Idaho State at 10 a.m. ET/9 a.m. local and following against George Washington at 12:30 p.m. ET/11:30 a.m. local. Live scoring can be found here.
#13 Texas Tech 12, Princeton 0 (five innings)
The Red Raiders scored three in the first, four in the third and five in the fourth on their way to a run-rule win over the Tigers to open Princeton's Friday pair.Â
Princeton had three hits in the game, with Lauren Sablone getting a one-out triple in the second inning, a Julia Dumais one-out base hit in the third, and a Sablone one-out base hit in the fourth.Â
Texas State 12, Princeton 4 (six innings)
A six-run third inning was the middle of three straight frames in which the Bobcats built their lead, starting with a two-run second and before adding a run in the fourth.
Princeton got on the board with a two-run homer from Abby Hornberger, who sent one over the fence in right field two batters after a leadoff walk to Dumais, and Sablone had Princeton's second hit of the game two batters with a base hit two batters after Hornberger's homer. The fifth inning saw Allison Ha and Dumais single to put two on for Sophia Marsalo, who picked up both on a two-run double to pull Princeton within 9-4.
Texas State got three back in the top of the sixth and kept the Tigers quiet in the last half of the inning to close out the win.
