No. 20 Men's Tennis Sweeps Duals Against No. 36 MTSU & Binghamton
February 28, 2025 | Men's Tennis
A fantastic day at Meadows saw No. 24 Princeton sweep a pair of dual meets, with a win over Binghamton in the afternoon setting the stage for a thrilling win over No. 35 Middle Tennessee in the nightcap.
The pair of wins extends Princeton's win streak to four in a row and improves the Tigers to 13-4 overall in dual matches this season.
"It was a very good team win tonight against a strong MTSU squad," said head coach Billy Pate. "The doubles point was really back and forth but it was pivotal that we were able to secure that point. Early in singles we were down on some courts but we did a great job collectively fighting and turning the momentum. The spirited crowd helped us and I was proud of the way we finished the match as it was absolutely a much closer match than the final score indicated."
MTSU won the first doubles match, before the Tigers won the next two -- needing seven points in each. The 45th-ranked duo of Filippos Astreinidis and Paul Inchauspe tied the doubles series at 1-1 with a 7-5 win over MTSU's No. 75-ranked pair of Horak and El-Amin in a crucial victory. Fnu Nidunjianzan and Ellis Short followed up moments later with a 7-6 win to secure the doubles point and momentum for the Tigers.
In singles, Short carried his energy over from doubles and picked up the first singles victory via a 6-3, 6-2 win over Horak. Ranked No. 51 in singles, Fnu Nidunjianzan was quick with a second win for the Tigers when he picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win over Al-Amin. Already at three points, the deciding tally came from Landon Ardilla in a close 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles.
